Outcasts - Shame on you BBC !

A couple of weeks ago we watched the last of an 8-part series called Outcasts. It was sci-fi drama we really enjoyed, but for some reason the BBC chose to show it late Sunday evenings, and as such viewing figures were apparently low.

Believing it was a one-of series we got comfy to watch the last episode only for it to have an open and inconclusinve ending.   We waited as the credits rolled for the announcement of a returning Series 2, but it never came.

Perplexed we searched the internet, only to find out that the BBC  had cancelled the series and as such stated there would be no Series 2, a decision they appear to have taken during production of series 1 and before it was aired on TV.

So why did the BBC show a series in this way knowing there would be no series 2, leaving the audience annoyed of having watched series 1 and the inconclusive ending.

They appeared to continue to promote the series all the way up to the 15th March on their facebook page

So, I complained for the very first time to the BBC as to why they strung along an audience watching a Series 1 to conclusion knowing there would be no series 2.  I was one of many as you can see on this 'Save Outcasts' group on Facebook. But it seems we all got thia inpersonal reply, confirming there will definitely not be a series 2 :-(

This was the Reply from the BBC Complaints team :-

Dear Mr Ellam
Thanks for contacting us regarding ‘Outcasts’ on BBC One.

I understand you’re unhappy with the cancellation of the series.

We regularly have to make difficult decisions and unfortunately sometimes they will prove to be unpopular with some viewers. In spite of a great cast and production team, ‘Outcasts’ did not find its audience in the way that we had hoped. We remain proud of it but it will not be returning for another series. We can only apologise for any disappointment caused by our decision.

I’d like to assure you I've registered your complaint on our audience log. This is an internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily and is available for viewing by all our staff. This includes all programme makers and commissioning executives, along with our senior management. It ensures that your points, along with all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.
